Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze the translation strategies used by students in translating English text The researcher uses the theory of translation strategy by Lorcher (1992), and the theory of types of translation strategy by Suryawinata and Hariyanto (2003). The data were collected from the result of students' translation activity. The result shows that there are 8 translation strategies used by the students, they are addition, substraction, transposition, borrowing, cultural equivalent, synonym, expansion, and contextual conditioning. Students use those strategies because the strategy is simple to use in translating English text and ease the students in understanding the sentence or text.
