The objective of this research is to describe the English teacher's challenges in implementing scientific approach at SMP Negeri 1 Poso Kota Selatan. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The data are collected from observation, interview, and documentation. Observation is done in the classroom while the teaching and learning process. Interview is done to the English teacher. Documentation is obtained from the English teacher such as lesson plan, school's profile, and some pictures in the learning process. The result of this research showe that (1) In implementing scientific approach at SMP Negeri 1 Poso Kota Selatan, the English teacher prepares the lesson plan before teaching, consisting pre activities, while activities, and post activities. In the while activities the teacher implements scientific approach, including five steps that is observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and communicating. (2) There are two challenges face by the English teacher in implementing scientific approach, which are in implementing scientific approach itself (experimenting, associating, and communicating) and its assessment process.
