Abstract

This study aims to find out the figurative language used in three songs of Calum Scott, and to analyze its meaning. This study is a qualitative research. The data is taken from “Only Human”album , with the song title “You Are The Reason, “What I Miss Most”, and “Rhythm Inside” that analized by using Reaske’s (1988) theory about figurative language, and Leech’s (1974) theory of semantic meaning. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that there are five types of figurative language used in Calum Scott Songs such as hyperbole, personification, metaphor, synecdoche, and paradox.
