Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the strategies used by English students and biology students. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. Researchers used questionnaires and interviews to collect data. In this study, researchers used learning strategy theory from Oxford (1990). Researchers used Microsoft excel to analyze the data. The results of this study were English students used six strategies in learning English. Namely, memory strategy, cognitive strategy, compensation strategy, metacognitive strategy, affective strategy, and social strategy. The results of this study indicate that, many of the English students use metacognitive strategies and biology students use memory strategies, compensation strategies, and social strategies.
