Abstract

The objective of the research are to find out the effect of applying scanning technique in teaching narrative text at SMA Negeri 3 Poso and to find out the differences of students' learning achievement between pre-test and post-test. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this research is eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Poso in academic year 2016/2017 which consists of 39 students. In collecting the data, the researcher uses a test. The test is multiple choice forms. Based on the result of this research, it is shown that there are differences between students' productivity and the result of pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test, there are some students who are not seriously in following the activity of the research; they are lazy to read the text. The mean score is 72.22. In the post-test, students enjoy to read the text. It is because they focus on goals and things they ne$d. The mean score is 94.44. It- is shown that scanning technique can affect students' ability in writing narrative text.
