Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of watching English subtitles in vocabulary learning. This type of research is descriptive quantitative research. The research subjects were 8th grade students of Merpati class in SMP N 2 Poso Academic Year 2018/2019. which amounted to 24 students. The instrument used in this study was a pre-test and post-test. Based on the results of the study the average value of students in the pretest was 55.83 while the average value of students in the post-test was 82.50. This shows that the development of students in watching films in English subtitles adds to the vocabulary of students, this is proved by using the t test with the help of the Spss 21 application which shows that t-Value is greater than t-table (15.004> 1, 71387) .Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of film English subtitles affects students in adding English vocabulary.
