Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the strategies used by teacher in distance learning English. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research with the location in MTs Alkhairaat Ampana Kota. The subjects studied were English teacher. The method used is observation, interviews, and documentation. Then the data collection technique used by the researcher was through data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. From this study, it can be seen that the results found in this study are: The teacher only applies one strategy out of four teaching strategies in distance learning, the strategy used is the independent study strategy. In the application of the independent study strategy, the teacher only sends material and assignments to the Whatsapp group for students to work on and the teacher directs students fully to study independently at home, then the teacher waits for students to send back answers from the assignments that students are doing, so it can be described that the independent strategy study is an appropriate learning strategy and can be applied in the current distance learning process.
